Lost Dog Found

I was joined near our local Fred Meyer while working this morning by an uninvited companion who seems to have lost
his parents. I've posted his info at our local Home At Last Humane Society. John Doe Puggle is extremely friendly, well behaved around cats, and seems to be house trained. My wife has fallen in love with him, so if an owner doesn't come forward, I guess I've inherited another child to watch over.

Time to come clean...

I'm a huge fan of the 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica. My Saturdays were often spent watching cartoons all morning, followed by re-runs of BSG and Buck Rogers. Glenn Larson, the creator of these shows and others (such as The Six Million Dollar Man and Knight Rider) shaped much of my childhood for better or worse. So....

Battlestar Galactica (1978)

I confess, that, until this past week, neither Jess or I had watched the new version of BSG.
I resisted for a very long time, but with the series about to end, and with many of the episodes now available on Netflix, I decided I might as well give it a shot. So far we've consumed the mini-series and the first three episodes of the first season.

Our verdict?
Its not bad. Its not my favorite show yet, and we are annoyed by some of the changes, particularly the Starbuck casting, and the loss of the uber cool anthem from the '78 version, but on the whole we've enjoyed it. I was extremely pleased to see Richard Hatch (the original Apollo) appear, as I had heard about (and agreed with many of) his criticisms of the new series during its production in 2003.

It feels good to finally confess this Sci-fi geek sin that I've struggled to keep secret from my friends for the better part of the last four years.

What makes a good President of the United States?

A good President of the United States is someone who has an intense and active intellectual mind, and have a sense of curiosity.

He or she possess a very powerful and sincere compassion for Americans from all backgrounds and classes.

A good President of the United States serves to inspire both citizens nationally and internationally to make greater achievements in our shared interests in the national and global community.

A good President is not bogged down by petty political bickering and posturing. They understand when it is necessary to be politically forceful and when it is time for a more subtle and nuanced approach to challenges we face.

A good President innovates within the constraints of our United States Constitution and without sacrificing personal liberties when old solutions will not suffice for new problems.

A good President will face down the increasing pressure to grow our military budget and will divert those monies back to states for purposes of solving domestic needs including environmental and sustainability concerns.

A good President places a premium on solid quality science and implements policies with quality science in mind.

A good President is clear to separate Religious practice and superstition from the practices and efforts of logical and reasoned government.
